2026 Internship Testimonials
SLR partners with students at various Interpreter Training Programs to provide opportunities to fulfill the internship hours graduation requirement. Here’s a look at the recent cohort of interns!
Maggie Tower - Bloomsburg University
I have been interning with SLR since the beginning of 2025, and have had nothing but positive experiences. Most of my internship has been focused on educational interpreting. After communicating with the kind and helpful staff at SLR, I started by observing and was paired with a fantastic mentor, Deanna, who taught me about working with younger students. We especially spoke about tools and resources to use with students who have experienced language deprivation.
Now, I am on my Interpreting practicum, and it has been a phenomenal experience so far. It is clear that my mentor, Dani, really cares about my growth and success. She always has very helpful feedback, and helps me figure out the “why” of decisions being made and errors that occur. This has been extremely helpful and has allowed me to develop and improve my interpreting and interpersonal skills before I graduate and enter the field. Throughout my time interning, I have never felt unsupported or uncomfortable asking questions, and everyone I have met and worked with has been extremely warm and welcoming. I am so thankful to have interned with SLR, and truly do not know where I would be without the support they have provided and the mentors they have connected me with.
Amanda Allard (Mentor) and
Muriel LaMassa (Intern) - Bloomsburg University
My mentor has created a safe space for me to learn and make mistakes. She has never made me feel incompetent for not knowing something and always makes time to discuss certain sign choices and what better decisions we can make next time. Knowing I have someone on my side, wanting me to learn and do better is extremely beneficial for my education as it has built my confidence over these last few months.
Nina - Liberty University
I have felt an overwhelming amount of support, love, and respect from my mentors. They have become like family and close friends to me over the course of these few months. I have never once felt like I wasn’t good enough or I couldn’t do it. I have felt so supported and appreciated. Thank you mentors!!!
There is only so much you can learn in an ITP and through observations. In order to really understand interpreting you have to actually do it. Having skilled mentors has been a great model for me and my goals in interpreting. My skills have grown exponentially due to the support, correction, and guidance from my mentors. I can even see how much I have grown! I now feel confident in my skills and know that I can be an interpreter.
