slr-mentorship program - october/november/december 2020 cycle

We had a 3 pairs of mentors/mentees for this cycle. – (total of 6 participants).

Two pairs started their work together during the June/July/August 2020 cycle and wished to continue their work together into the Fall.

While COVID prevented any in person meetings - we did meet as a group via ZOOM; smaller meetings/check-in’s were conducted as well (also via ZOOM). COVID has certainly presented challenges in making the mentor/mentee experience productive and meaningful. However, mentor/mentee teams met on-line doing video work, discussed best business practices, talked about the challenges of interpreting on-line, and talked about how to best support each other during this difficult and isolating time.

To help foster a learning community among participants, Coordinator, Amy Rubinger frequently sent out information about on-line workshops and webinars.

Participants attended:

Amy Meckler’s Workshop: “Interpreting from the Inside Out; A Stage Theory of Interpreter Development”;

“Deaf Experiences in the Age of COVID-19”;

“Interpret for Language Deprivation: A Mindset Shift”.

Applications have just been sent out for the February/March/April 2021 cycle. If you are interested in participating as a mentor or mentee, the applications are due January 28, 2021. Any questions, please feel free to contact Amy Rubinger: amy@slrconnect.com
