Staff Changes at SLR

In 2023, we’ve had some major changes to our team here at Sign Language Resources, Inc. We’ve worked hard to expand our capacity to maintain our high standards for quality Sign Language Interpreters.

Charles Reaves, SLR’s Educational Interpreter Supervisor, will officially retire from his role in December 2023. Charles has been an integral part of SLR for 7 years, where he’s shaped the trajectory of not only students, but also the interpreters that serve them. From now until December, Charles will continue his responsibilities while also training his two replacements: Diana Abayeva and William Stark

Effective immediately, Diana Abayeva is the new Supervisor for a majority of the schools in Queens that we serve through our Department of Education contract. We are thrilled to have Diana on the team. She is a second-generation Deaf individual with a profound appreciation for linguistic mediation. With her passion in interpreting, Diana dove into the profession in 2012 by immersing in several trainings and workshops. Before joining SLR, she worked for other interpreting agencies to learn more about the industry, including certifications, regulatory adherence, and other necessary demands to serve the community. You can reach Diana at Diana@SLRconnect.com.

Also, William Stark, Staff Interpreter and Scheduling Liaison, will take on the role of Interim Supervisor for the Middle College High School and staff. While he will retain his duties as interpreter scheduling liaison, he will not be in the regular interpreting rotation. Instead, he will use that time to train with Charles, and be ready to take over completely when Charles leaves in December. You can reach Will at Liaison@SLRconnect.com.

In addition to the changes to our DoE team, we’ve also brought on two new members to our Administrative team this year: ReyAnna Watson, Interpreter Coordination Specialist, and Cara Auerbach, Part-Time Administrative Assistant. ReyAnna is the 4th member of our coordination team, and she’s already made an impact on scheduling efficiency. Cara works with Tammy and Sarah in our business office to expand our administrative capacity. We’re delighted to have them join our team.

Change is always happening around us and we strive to embrace it. Join us in welcoming Diana, Will, ReyAnna, and Cara to their new roles at SLR! If you’d like to learn more about our new team members, check out the Team page.
