slr-mp february/march/april 2023 cycle
We have just concluded our February/March/April 2023 cycle. We had a total of 14 participants!!
We had our kick-off, introductory meeting in February, where participants got introduced to the program and to each other. Mentors and mentees are encouraged to share resources and professional growth opportunities with each other, as well as feel comfortable working together should they wish to. Mentorship Coordinator, Amy Rubinger, and the Professional Development Team at SLR are working more closely together to share ideas and strategies to better support interpreter education and development.
During this cycle, Alyssa Banner, a mentor in our February/March/April cycle presented an insightful and engaging workshop in March to the interpreter community entitled "Word Wide Web." Mentor Jen Kagan and her mentee, Diana Enterlin, have been working together in the SLR mentorship program for a year. In April they gave a compelling presentation to all the participants about the benefits of a long-term mentorship relationship.
Here are some comments from our Participants:
“I want to thank you for matching me with my mentee. I had an incredibly positive experience and I learned a great deal from working with her.”
“Hi Amy, it has been a pleasure to mentor for the SLR program and for the mentee.“
“Amy you have been an excellent leader and I have gained a lot from this experience and hopefully the mentee did as well. He did say that he will be able to use what we have worked on in current practice and seemed fulfilled with the mentoring program and our work together.”
“I have learned a lot from this experience which I will take with me in my work and for possible future mentoring sessions.”
“This has been a wonderful experience! Thank you both for your support.”
“I'm enjoying the mentoring and actually learning a LOT during this process.”
Applications for our June/July/August 2023 cycle are open now. If you are interested in participating as a mentor or a mentee, please submit the application no later than May 26. Any questions, feel free to contact Mentorship Program Coordinator – Amy Rubinger.
